Sweatember is over. Welcome, October!⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ It has been so, so, so hot. Many mornings, as I’m getting ready for my day with sweat already running down my face, I sincerely wonder how I can possibly make it through one more day of heat and humidity, let alone one more week, or one more month, or one more year. ⁣ ⁣ I see a long, sweltering life stretching out before my eyes without even the hope of a breeze in the air, and I feel my weakness. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I can’t make it. I just can’t. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ And then the day is over, I’ve had a cold shower, and is that a breeze coming through the screen? ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I step outside and its cooler, the stars are dazzling overhead, it’s a new month, and I have made it after all. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ And I’m thankful for grace, Octobers, and rain in the forecast. ⁣⁣

Another quote that grabbed me from Myquillyn Smith’s The Nesting Place. I’ve mentioned before how much I enjoyed both this book and The Cozy Minimalist. They really spoke to me on several different levels, and I learned so many fun details about how to decorate your home in a way that makes sense and works for the story that you are uniquely living in. I’m excited to hear that she’s working on another book!

“I don’t always put pictures of myself on here, but when I do, it’s because my outfit matches my dinnerware.”⁣ ⁣ I’ve been in the market for skirts for my growing daughter, and several friends here on Insta have been talking a lot about a shop called @tickledteal. ⁣ ⁣ We were browsing through their website and Lily laughed when she saw me click on this skirt. “I knew you were going to get that one, because it looks just like all of your dishes!” ⁣ ⁣ All the cool girls these days are coordinating their wardrobes to match their kitchens, everyone knows that! Right? No? Just me? Okay, I’m fine with that too. 😎 ⁣ ⁣ But I feel like Ree would agree with me, maybe. ⁣ ⁣ Anyway, we were mostly shopping for Lily, not me, and we did end up getting her a few skirts. I have several thoughts about these skirts, and hope to chat about them in stories soon, so check back if you’re in the comfy and cute skirt market! ⁣ ⁣ {p/s I was giggling like crazy when I took the second picture, because I know I am N. U. T. S. but the fact that my dishes and outfit matched so well totally made my day. ☀️

Galatians for You by Tim Keller is a must-read! I feel like that about every Keller book I’ve read so far, anyone else feel that way? Each one has been so thought-provoking and convicting. ⁣ ⁣ I listened to the audiobook via Overdrive, and I think I will probably get the paper version at some point and read through this as a Bible study. ⁣

~ That time I had a giant pegboard hanging in my kitchen ~⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Last year, we rented a house with a big empty wall between the kitchen and dining room. I knew that was where the coffee bar belonged, but didn’t actually have any furniture or shelving or anything else that would work for it. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ The house was on stilts, and one day I went underneath to explore. I found sand, lava rock, crabs, electrical wiring, a cheap old desk, and a pegboard. I looked at the pegboard leaning against the desk and immediately, my mind saw it covered with mugs and all the things one needs to fill those mugs with coffee. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ (Why I saw a pegboard and immediately thought “coffee” is a mystery for another day. I probably just think about coffee too much. Mystery solved.)⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ At any rate, it turned out that hanging a pegboard on soft, waterlogged dry wall (also a story for another day) is not that easy. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Neither was it easy to find pegs. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ But a few months later (aka island time), and thanks to my long-suffering husband, I had my pegboard coffee bar. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Would I do it again? Probably not. 😄 Our windows were open all the time, blowing in salty air and wet dust, so the mugs were hard to keep clean. I didn’t enjoy seeing all the cords hanging below the desk, but couldn’t find anything affordable or pretty to hide them with. ⁣I would have really liked to have framed it. ⁣ ⁣⁣ But even so, I loved my coffee wall. It felt good to take things that weren’t pretty or being used and turn them into something that met my needs and was fun to look at. And I thoroughly enjoyed walking into my kitchen every day and seeing all those colorful mugs hanging there as if to say, “Good Morning!” ⁣ ☀️☕️ 🌈
